SkyStar System

The SkyStar system uses existing technology to gather and store the free energy that you can get from the sun—our star in the sky. This system consists of two parts:

1. An Ultra Capacity Underfloor Battery
It's the largest available battery in any RV. At up to 2100Ah (26kwh), it has the capacity of two Tesla PowerWalls. Because it's installed as a layer under the floor, it occupies practically no space inside the van.

2. A Solar Awning System
When extended, it can generate up to 1200 watts of power. When added to the optional two 200 watt panels mounted on the roof, you can generate up to 1600 watts!

Ultra Capacity Underfloor
1100Ah or 2100Ah Lithium Battery

This Ultra Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery is coupled with integrated management, heating and cooling. At either 1100Ah (13kwh) or 2100Ah (26kwh), these Ultra systems are the largest RV battery systems currently available anywhere. This system has enough power to run your electric furnace, floor heaters, or rooftop air conditioning off-grid for days or weeks. Interior and exterior temperatures and other data are monitored by the Ultra's system's monitoring and control computer. Alerts can be sent when values go outside defined ranges. Actions, such as turning on heating or cooling systems, can be set to run automatically.
  • Instead of taking up precious space in a storage area, the Ultra series battery mounts under the floor.

  • At up to 26kwh, it has the capacity of two Tesla PowerWalls.

This Ultra capacity upgrade also includes:
  • High efficiency 12 volt DC powered electric heating with heated forced air and heated seats on all rows. Floors are insulated and actively heated and cooled for comfort and to protect the under floor battery.
  • Rooftop air conditioning that is 20 to 50 percent more efficient than standard systems.
  • A computerized RV monitoring and control system designed from ground up with custom circuit boards, firmware and cloud servers. This allows our mobile app to control everything in the RV from anywhere in the world and to receive over-the-air updates.
  • A 3000 watt inverter.
  • Electric heating elements for all water pipes. These pipes are insulated and monitored for temperature.
  • Your choice of an all electric kitchen or a propane chef's kitchen.
  • If you choose an all-electric kitchen, it includes:
    • A two burner induction stove.
    • A high efficiency electric oven that's a combination regular oven plus toaster oven, convection oven, microwave, and air fryer.
  • The propane chef's kitchen features:
    • A restaurant-style range and full oven.
    • Extra outlets to run small appliances like a food processor, a mixer, etc.

Solar Awning System

Our solar charging awning is a new way to capture energy from the sun. It can generate as much as 1.2 kilowatts (1200 watts). When matched with two of our standard 200 watt rooftop solar panels, plus our 2100 amp hour Ultra Capacity underfloor battery, you'll probably be able to forget about running out of power for a long time. And your neighbors won't have to put up with a noisy generator, either.

The images below show a solar awning mounted on a travel trailer. Similar systems can easily be mounted on a Ford Transit van.

It's easy to understand how it works when fully extended. Understanding how it retracts is not so clear. The awning uses rows of rigid solar cells that don't roll up like a regular fabric awning. The powered mechanism "accordions" the awning when you want to retract it. Like a regular powered awning, this solar awning extends and retracts with the touch of a button.

Best of all, a solar awning can also be installed on the opposite side of an existing awning, eliminating the need for removal.
It's been tested for durability
This solar awning system has undergone extensive testing in high winds. It has also been tested to make sure that the cells in the awning can withstand the constant vibration of bouncing up and down in a breeze. The awning's mechanism has also been tested in trials that simulate years of continuous use. They tested the awning arm for 2,000 open and closed cycles with additional weight added to confirm its durability.

Under extreme weather conditions, the awning automatically retracts completely to protect itself. Small gaps between the modules allow wind to pass through, increasing the structure’s stability.

The panels have two faces, generating electricity both from sunlight above and reflective light from below. Bypass diodes are integrated with each module, meaning that if one module is shaded, it will not affect the performance of the rest.

DreamVans is a fictional recreational vehicle manufacturer. If it were real, it would feature the best ideas and the best technology in the global RV industry today. These innovations have been combined into the models shown on this site. To keep things simple, these DreamVans are all based on the gasoline powered Ford Transit commercial van. Ford Transit features are gathered from various Transit models around the globe. This site uses information and photos from several sources, and photos may not reflect details of a particular brand.
